The Reaction That Made Me Think Again

I had initially skipped this presentation when I ran into it a few months ago until I ran into The PowerPoint That Made Me Cry (because I was happy) on ExperienceCurve: Your mileage may vary but some of the themes in this slideshow “happiness as your business model” resonate so deeply with me it literally brought tears to my eyes. In my book, anything strong enough to provoke such a reaction should not be brushed off quickly. Read it and weep. HT: ExperienceCurve Happiness as Your Business Model View SlideShare …

The Ubiquity of Tribes & The Widgets That Track Them

It’s clear the Internet is changing our world as we know it and we’re starting to see a significant shift in the balance of influence. American politics is slowly starting to wake up to this reality and only time will tell where we go from here. But being submersed in the drama of American politics makes it really easy to forget about what’s going on elsewhere. This month’s issue of Wired changes that with a story on what social media’s doing to slowly crack the tightly controlled structure of authority …

The Wizard behind the Curtain

“Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain” – The Wizard When I think of The Wizard from The Wizard of Oz, I think of a question I remember having even at the age of 6 when I first remember watching this movie.  Why is this man hiding behind the curtain?  Why not just come out and say it himself?  What’s the thinking here? Prioritizing For A Less Than Ideal Economy

It would seem as though we are going through what could be a prolonged global recession. Banks collapsing, easy credit gone, rising fuel and food prices, the continually weakening dollar. None of these portend good things. If you haven’t already felt the effects of these less than ideal economic times, chances are you will in the near future. If you rely on subscriptions, sales, or advertising for your cash flow, less consumer spending means less money in your pocket. The entire American economy is something of a huge bubble right …

How do social networks build community?

I’ve thought about this quite a bit lately. I’ve actually come to wonder if they do help build community at all. I seem to experience less community now than I did before I had a Myspace, Facebook, or Virb membership. I think part of this is because of the isolation that telecommunications seems to foster. Talk is cheap, we can talk with anyone we want to any time we want. Since supply is so high, we value people’s words and opinions very little. Community, real community that matters, that has …
